As a member of the AGC Group (Japan), AGC Chemicals Vietnam Co., Ltd. (ACVN) operates a PVC resin manufacturing plant in the Cai Mep Industrial Park, utilizing various energy sources for production, including electricity, coal for boilers, diesel oil (DO), LPG, and gasoline.
To effectively manage energy consumption, the company has established an Energy Management Board, issued an energy policy, and conducted periodic energy audits to identify major energy-consuming areas and implement improvement measures tailored to actual operating conditions.

During plant operations, ACVN has gradually upgraded its lighting systems and electrical equipment toward greater energy efficiency. Fluorescent lamps, compact fluorescent lamps, and high-pressure lamps with high electricity consumption have been replaced with high-efficiency LED lighting. In the sludge storage warehouse area, the company utilizes solar-powered lighting to reduce electricity consumption from the grid. At the same time, natural lighting is maximized in production workshops, warehouses, and office areas, while lighting is turned off in unoccupied spaces.
In 2024, ACVN transitioned all employees from desktop computers to laptops and encouraged maintaining office air-conditioning temperatures at 26°C to reduce electricity consumption. The company also installed automatic power factor correction capacitor banks at main electrical panels to maintain a high power factor, thereby reducing power losses throughout the system and supporting more stable equipment operation.

In addition to electrical systems, the coal-fired boiler system is another area where the company has focused on implementing numerous energy-saving measures. Condensate generated after heat exchange is recovered and returned to the boiler system to utilize residual heat while reducing the need for fresh feedwater and fuel consumption. The company has also installed economizers that recover heat from exhaust gases to preheat boiler feedwater, thereby reducing heat losses and improving overall boiler efficiency.
To minimize heat losses, steam pipelines and valves are insulated. Simultaneously, the company has implemented measures to reduce steam consumption throughout the production process, thereby lowering coal consumption for steam generation. Boiler forced-draft and induced-draft fans, along with various pumps and fans across the plant, are equipped with variable frequency drives (VFDs) to adjust power output according to actual demand, helping save electricity and optimize operations.

Alongside equipment investments, ACVN maintains regular maintenance and minor repair programs to ensure stable operating efficiency of machinery and equipment. The company also strengthens inspections and repairs of compressed air leaks to minimize energy losses during production.
In parallel with technical solutions, the company continuously conducts training programs, awareness campaigns, and internal energy-saving initiatives to cultivate energy-efficient practices among employees. ACVN also implements various activities related to greenhouse gas emission reduction and environmental protection.

The comprehensive implementation of solutions ranging from equipment upgrades and operational optimization to raising employee awareness has enabled ACVN to maintain a specific energy consumption level of approximately 0.081–0.082 TOE per ton of product during the 2020–2024 period. In 2024 alone, the company achieved an energy-saving rate of 1.22%.
In addition to improving energy efficiency and reducing operating costs, many of the company’s initiatives have contributed to lowering CO₂ emissions, such as the use of solar-powered lighting, replacement of R22 refrigerant-based air-conditioning systems with R410A systems, and reductions in steam consumption during production. By combining equipment improvements, operational optimization, and enhanced energy awareness, ACVN is steadily improving control over energy consumption in its manufacturing processes while reducing operating costs and emissions associated with chemical production.
