During the 2020–2024 period, the total energy savings achieved by Panasonic Industrial Devices Vietnam Co., Ltd. (PIDVN) reached 31.4%, making it one of the leading models for energy efficiency in industrial production.

PIDVN was established in 2006 with 100% Japanese investment. As a leading enterprise in the electronics components manufacturing sector, its key products include mechanical relays and electromechanical components supplied to major global automobile manufacturers.
Alongside its production and business activities, PIDVN consistently identifies energy efficiency as a core objective in its sustainable development strategy.
Mr. Ha Thanh Tu - Factory Director of Panasonic Industrial Devices Vietnam Co., Ltd.
Mr. Ha Thanh Tu, Factory Director of PIDVN, stated: "With the philosophy of ‘contributing to society,’ Panasonic considers energy efficiency a top priority and aims to achieve net-zero emissions in manufacturing operations across its group companies by 2030. Accordingly, PIDVN has set a target to reduce energy intensity by 2.5% annually and aims to achieve carbon neutrality (Scope 1 & 2) by 2026 through a combination of actual emission reductions and the use of IRECs and carbon credits."
To achieve these goals, PIDVN has implemented a wide range of technical and management solutions. One notable initiative is the installation and operation of a rooftop solar power system with a capacity of 1,031 kW since October 2024. This renewable energy source currently meets approximately 7% of the factory’s electricity demand, helping reduce around 600 tons of CO₂ emissions annually.
The rooftop solar system supplies 7% of the factory’s electricity consumption.
In parallel, PIDVN has upgraded and replaced equipment with higher energy efficiency: Replaced 4 old chillers (COP 2.79) with high-efficiency chillers (COP 6.36), saving over 460,000 kWh/year, equivalent to 299 tons of CO₂, and about USD 34,842 annually; Installed one high-efficiency air compressor with an inverter to replace two old units, saving 233,348 kWh/year; Replaced the vacuum pump system for plastic molding machines with a high-efficiency system, reducing electricity consumption by 50% and eliminating the need for cooling towers.
Since 2020, the entire factory lighting system has been upgraded to high-efficiency LED lighting, reducing lighting electricity consumption by 46% and saving over USD 15,000 annually, while improving lighting quality and reducing maintenance costs.
PIDVN places strong emphasis on upgrading and improving equipment performance to enhance production efficiency and reduce energy costs.
To further enhance energy efficiency, PIDVN has developed automated software to control compressed air usage during machine operation and standby periods. This solution saves 271,289 kWh/year and reduces 176 tons of CO₂ annually, equivalent to approximately USD 20,593 in savings.
The company also optimizes AHU system operations, controls fresh air dampers to utilize natural cooling, thereby reducing chiller and pump operation; and improves chiller exhaust duct systems to save energy for air conditioning.
Control systems help ensure efficient operation, minimizing energy losses and operational issues.
At the same time, PIDVN has implemented an Energy Management System (EMS) software platform that enables real-time collection, analysis, and evaluation of energy consumption data by area and equipment. This allows automated monitoring, early detection of abnormal consumption, and timely corrective actions.
In 2024, PIDVN achieved certification under ISO 50001:2018 Energy Management System, standardizing all energy management and usage processes at the factory. This certification not only improves energy efficiency but also demonstrates the company’s strong commitment to green production and sustainable development.
PIDVN considers energy planning and staff training as a long-term strategy. The company has established an Energy Management Board and issued a policy commitment to “effective energy management and enhanced awareness of energy conservation.” Internal training and communication activities are actively promoted, including participation in Earth Hour, employee awareness training, and recognition and rewards for individuals and teams with innovative ideas in energy saving and environmental protection. These efforts have helped the company save more than USD 160,000 annually, equivalent to reducing 1,956 tons of CO₂ emissions.
Mr. Ha Thanh Tu added: "Thanks to the comprehensive implementation of these energy-saving solutions, energy consumption per unit of product decreased from 0.1325 (in 2020) to 0.0909 (in 2024). Over the 2020–2024 period, PIDVN achieved total energy savings of 31.4%."
The results achieved during 2020–2025 confirm PIDVN’s sound strategy and persistent efforts in energy efficiency. The integrated implementation of technical solutions, management practices, and awareness-raising initiatives has not only reduced costs and CO₂ emissions but also improved production efficiency, enhanced competitiveness, and strengthened the company’s environmental and social responsibility. With these achievements, PIDVN continues to serve as a benchmark for industrial enterprises aiming toward sustainable development and carbon neutrality.
