To enhance the competitiveness of its products, Toan Thang Steel Joint Stock Company has implemented various energy-saving solutions during its production process.

Toan Thang Steel Joint Stock Company, located in Song Cong I Industrial Park, Song Cong City, Thai Nguyen Province, was established in 2008 and specializes in the production of manganese-rich slag and alloy steel billets with a capacity of 295,000 tons of products per year. During production, Toan Thang Steel consumes a significant amount of electricity, coke, gas, etc. Therefore, implementing measures for energy-saving and efficient use across multiple production stages is always a top priority for the company.
Mr. Tran Van Nghiep, Head of the Administrative Organization Department, stated: “Toan Thang Steel identifies energy management and electricity saving as crucial issues for reducing production costs and increasing competitiveness. From this awareness, the company’s leadership has always emphasized green production and energy saving.”
Specifically, the company has researched and sought solutions to improve science technology, and equipment to ensure enhanced product quality and productivity, thereby reducing electrical energy consumption.

In addition, the company conducts continuous and strict energy audits. In June 2024, the company carried out an energy audit organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade in collaboration with the Korean Energy Agency. After the energy audit, Toan Thang Steel gained a clearer understanding of its energy usage and consumption in its production activities. This helps the company analyze, evaluate, and select management and technological solutions to use energy more efficiently and economically.
Sharing about high-efficiency energy-saving solutions, Mr. Ngo Sy Nha, Deputy Director in charge of technology at the steelmaking plant, Toan Thang Steel Joint Stock Company, said: The company invested in a billet production line starting from ore, iron, through the pelletizing and sintering process to produce molten iron in a blast furnace, then transfer the iron to the steelmaking plant. Previously, this process used electrical energy, but now it utilizes the thermal chemistry of the iron to make steel, reducing electrical energy use.
Switching from electric arc furnace technology to oxygen-blown furnace technology has helped the plant reduce electricity consumption from 600 kWh/ton of product to 20 kWh/ton of product, equivalent to over a 90% reduction.

Mr. Nha also mentioned that the dust extraction fan area in the steelmaking plant consumes the most electrical energy. Therefore, the company's goal is to use variable frequency drives to adjust fan speed and reduce electricity consumption in the future.
Additionally, the heat generated from the steelmaking process has not yet been utilized. In the future, the company aims to use this heat to generate steam for electricity production, further reducing electrical energy sources.
Alongside energy-saving solutions, environmental solutions are also a focus for Toan Thang Steel. Mr. Tran Van Nghiep shared that to ensure environmental work, the company pays particular attention to input raw materials that meet quality and technological requirements to keep emissions to the lowest levels. The company also installs automatic monitoring equipment to actively control emission levels during production for timely and thorough remediation, ensuring a green-clean-beautiful environment.
Regarding wastewater, the company has recycled 100% to cool steel billets. Solid waste, such as slag, is supplied as raw material to cement plants, and coarse slag is used as raw material for concrete and non-burnt brick production plants.
