Practicing savings and preventing waste is considered one of the crucial solutions in the production and business process of Quang Ninh Thermal Power JSC.
“Practicing Energy Efficiency, Combating Waste" is the 2023 theme of the Vietnam Electricity (EVN), to ensure sufficient electricity supply for socio-economic development, reduce costs, increase revenue, ensure financial balance, and promote sustainable and efficient operations of EVN.
On June 8, 2023, the Prime Minister issued Directive 20/CT-TTg on strengthening electricity savings for 2023 - 2025 and subsequent years, outlining measures to implement electricity savings in manufacturing enterprises. Alongside that, " Practicing Energy Efficiency, Combating Waste" is the 2023 theme of EVN, o ensure sufficient electricity supply for socio-economic development, reduce costs, increase revenue, ensure financial balance, and promote sustainable and efficient operations of EVN.. Therefore, the Quang Ninh Thermal Power JSC, along with other units within the Power Generation Corporation 1, has actively implemented various solutions to save electricity in its production and business activities.
Saving energy in production activities
In 2023, the electricity production sector in general, and Quang Ninh Thermal Power Company in particular, faced numerous challenges, especially the impact of the increased global raw material prices, which has escalated the costs of electricity production.
Therefore, the practice of saving and preventing waste is considered one of the crucial solutions in the production and business processes of Quang Ninh Thermal Power Company. To achieve the set objectives, the company has issued a comprehensive program for saving and preventing waste, along with a plan to implement the 2023 theme of EVN within the company. This program is disseminated to all officers, employees, and workers in the unit, aiming to achieve 100% completion of the planned targets for production, business, finance, investment, and construction efficiency in 2023.
Officers develop the habit of turning off electrical devices when not in use and utilizing natural light.
Thanks to the strong implementation of technical and management measures to save electricity in production, the self-use rate of the company has reached 9.2% from the beginning of the year until now (a reduction compared to the planned target of 9.51%). Quang Ninh Thermal Power is a large-capacity thermal power plant in the national power system with an annual average electricity output of 7.5 billion kWh. Therefore, the amount of electricity saved by the company in production through the reduction of the self-use rate (more than 20 million kWh) is a significant figure, contributing to ensuring national energy security and effectively implementing the company's production and business activities.
To reduce the self-use rate, the company has implemented a comprehensive series of solutions, such as establishing the operation method of major devices with high capacity, including water supply and condensate pumps, stack fans, hot circulating pumps, etc., to minimize the self-use of electricity. They have conducted experiments to optimize the operation, and combustion process to improve energy efficiency, and reduce heat consumption for turbines and boilers. The installation of auxiliary monitoring systems and the construction of the main system, stack fans, boiler fans have also been carried out.
The company has effectively implemented measures to minimize incidents, strengthen equipment inspection and maintenance, promptly address emerging deficiencies, enhance operational discipline, and increase the power generation efficiency of the machine units. The machine downtime rate due to incidents in 2023 has decreased to 0.51% compared to the planned target of 2.74%, significantly reducing electricity and startup fuel consumption, ensuring that the units are always ready to respond well to mobilization methods.

In addition, to save electricity in production and improve operational efficiency, the company has intensified digital transformation activities, scientific research, and encouraged enthusiastic employees to explore technical improvements. In 2023, the company had 70 initiatives implemented, contributing significantly to economic benefits for the company and receiving commendation from EVN as an outstanding unit in the '10 Thousand Innovations' program in the Trade Union of EVN.
Saving energy at the office
The company has diligently implemented various measures to save electricity in the workplace, such as:
During the extremely hot weather in May, June, and July 2023, when the electricity demand was exceptionally high, the company implemented various measures to save electricity such as: Maximizing the use of natural light, limited lighting in hallways and common areas that are not essential, limiting the air conditioning time in offices to no more than 4 hours per day, setting the temperature at 27 degrees, and having repair/production teams in workshops to turn on air conditioning only when there are 02 or more people in the team.
Company employees were instructed to adjust the brightness of computer screens to a low level and adjust resolution and contrast for clear display; Set up automatic screen shutdown to save energy; Turn off computers, and unplug electrical devices when not in use; Regularly clean the industrial cooling system of air conditioners.
The company's operation buildings are supplied with electricity from the plant's self-use system and always have specific regulations such as the lighting on-off mode, separating each group of lights regularly and irregularly to ensure the company's self-use power saving work.
The company actively promotes energy saving on its website and company page on Facebook, publishing articles and guides on saving electricity. The company also organizes a drawing competition on the theme of energy-saving for the children of its employees to enhance awareness, foster energy-saving habits for families, and promote energy-saving practices within the community.
With these specific solutions and actions, Quang Ninh Thermal Power Joint Stock Company is determined to effectively implement the theme of 2023, "Practicing Energy Efficiency, Combating Waste." This serves as a solid foundation for the company to successfully fulfill its production and business tasks, meeting the goal of ensuring a safe and continuous electricity supply for the country's development and the daily needs of the people in the coming years.
