The Vinh Tan 4 Thermal Power Plant consists of two assemblies whose a total capacity is 1,200 MW (2 x 600 MW) and supplies annually 7.2 billion kWh to the national grid. 

When being put into operation, the Vinh Tan 4 Thermal Power Plant always strictly comply with regulations on environmental protection and is equipped with modern gas and waste water treatment technology in order to minimize negative impacts on the environment.

The Vinh Tan 4 Thermal Power Plant uses equipment imported from developed industrial countries such as Japan, Korea, G7 ... Beside using imported coal having low proportion of ash, it is equipped with advanced and effective waste gas treatment systems including electrostatic precipitator (ESP), sea water flue gas desulfurization (SWFGD) and low Nox burner.

In particular, at the time when boilers start, the ESP automatically operate to ensure that boilers not do release black smoke. 

With regard to waste treatment technology, the plant installs treatment systems of household wastewater, wastewater subject to oil, coal, chemical pollution and ash and solid waste collection and treatment system. The wastewater treatment system collects wastewater from oil-contaminated source. Regarding household wastewater, it is firstly treated separately and then poured into the centralized wastewater treatment system which collects wastewater from chemical-contaminated sources and other type of wastewater released in the production to continue to be treated in accordance with Vietnam environmental regulations. Therefore, the plant's emission parameters meet stipulated standards. 

The Vinh Tan 4 Thermal Power Plant project had the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment approve the environmental impact assessment report in the Decision No.1871/QD-BTNMT dated October 3, 2013 before it started. 

Accordingly, the Vinh Tan 4 Thermal Power Plant is equipped with an environmental protection equipment system in accordance with requirements of the environmental impact assessment report and Vietnam environmental regulations including waste gas, wastewater, ash and solid waste collection and treatment system.

On the other hand, during the plant construction, installation, testing process, the investor and the contractor complied with legal provisions on environmental protection and the approved environmental impact assessment report. The plant had qualified organizations measure and analyze the quality of waste gas and wastewater and evaluate environmental protection work before being put into operation officially. Currently, such organizations continue their job periodically. 

Following the direction of the Binh Thuan province and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the plant install an automatic monitoring systems of waste gas and wastewater transmitting their data directly to the Binh Thuan provincial Department of Natural Resources and Environment.
