Mr. Pham Ngoc Cuong – Member of the Board of Directors and Deputy General Director of Viet Tri Paper JSC – shared that the paper industry is among the most energy-intensive industrial sectors. At Viet Tri Paper, energy costs account for 8–10% of total production costs.

Recognizing that efficient energy use is one of the key solutions to reduce production costs, Viet Tri Paper has strictly followed the regulations under the Law on Energy Efficiency and Conservation.

In addition to internal measures such as issuing operation guidelines, using energy-efficient equipment, raising awareness among staff on energy saving, and regular maintenance of equipment, the company places great emphasis on in-depth investment in new equipment and modern technology. It has researched and implemented multiple solutions to optimize energy consumption.

Specifically, the company installed inverters for high-capacity motors to reduce energy consumption. In 2021, Viet Tri Paper invested in a modern, highly automated production line with a capacity of 100,000 tons/year, significantly lowering energy use.

For the pumping system, the company replaced traditional liquid ring vacuum pumps with large-capacity, high-efficiency turbo pumps. This change helped reduce electricity costs by 40–45%.

In terms of lighting, the company maximizes natural light and uses energy-saving LED bulbs.

Regarding future solutions to improve energy efficiency, Mr. Cuong said that in 2024, the company conducted an energy audit organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade in collaboration with the Korea Energy Agency. After the audit, Viet Tri Paper gained clearer insights into its energy use in production. “Based on the audit results and the feasibility study, the company installed soft starters for paper fan motors, which brought positive energy-saving outcomes. In the near future, we plan to install rooftop solar panels, replace low-efficiency aerators with high-efficiency ones for the wastewater treatment system, and install inverters for exhaust and blower fans in the paper drying section,” Mr. Cuong added.

As energy costs in production continue to rise, investing in energy-saving improvements is a top strategic decision for paper manufacturers. Viet Tri Paper JSC has been following this principle, helping the company cut costs, enhance product competitiveness, and better protect the environment.
