The National Electricity Saving Launch Ceremony and the Runing Race in response to the Earth Hour Campaign 2024

Within the framework of the Vietnam National Energy Efficiency Program (VNEEP) for the period 2019 – 2030, on March 16, 2024, the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) organized the National Electricity Saving Launch Ceremony and the Running Race in response to the Earth Hour Campaign 2024, at Thong Nhat Park, Hanoi City.
Attending the launch ceremony to promote electricity-saving and encourage athletes to participate in the Running Race in response to the Earth Hour Campaign 2024, there were representatives from the Ministry of Industry and Trade; relevant ministries and agencies; social organizations, industry associations, the business community, along with representatives of the media.

The event attracted the attention of a large number of professional and amateur athletes.
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, Mr. Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan stated that numerous activities in response to the campaign had been organized by MOIT in March, including an online contest to explore knowledge on using energy efficiency and conservation in response to the Earth Hour Campaign 2024, which was held on the platform of the VNEEP’s website; calling for the community and businesses to turn off lights from 20:30 to 21:30 on Saturday, March 23; and the Running Race in response to the Earth Hour Campaign.

The Deputy Minister emphasized that the Running Race in response to the Earth Hour campaign would add another voice, spreading the message "Save Electricity – Make It a Habit" to the community. With this message, we hope that all citizens, communities, and businesses nationwide will join hands to protect the environment, save energy and electricity, aiming for the goal of net-zero emissions by 2050 according to Vietnam's commitment at the COP26th, reaffirmed at the COP28th.
Ms. Kristina Bünde, Head of Cooperation, European Union Delegation, also affirmed: "Energy saving is the easiest way to save financial resources and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Of course, saving energy through energy-saving measures and the use of local energy sources is the clearest way to enhance a country's energy independence and thereby increase our resilience against external shocks or political pressures."

Ms. Kristina Bünde highlighted that economical and efficient use of energy is a core issue in the EU Delegation's support activities for Vietnam.
The Running Race in response to the Earth Hour Campaign 2024 attracted nearly 1500 participants, including officials, civil servants, employees in the Ministry of Industry and Trade and related governmental agencies; representatives of units, social organizations, industry associations; representatives of manufacturing and business enterprises; running enthusiasts; athletes from various amateur running clubs…
The race was organized with a community-oriented approach through a highly connective sports activity (running movement) aiming to call for, motivate, and encourage the participation of government agencies, social organizations, businesses, and the public to practice electricity saving regularly throughout the 365 days of the year, making electricity saving a habit everywhere at all times. Additionally, it celebrated the strength of unity, creating an environment for people, social organizations, and businesses to have the opportunity to interact, learn; build awareness of health training, positive lifestyle; contributing to the improvement of health, physical fitness, culture, and spirit.

At the ceremony, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Mr. Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan; Head of Cooperation, Delegation of the European Union to Vietnam; along with leaders of units such as the Department of Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Development (Ministry of Industry and Trade), Department of Science and Technology (Ministry of Industry and Trade); Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy (Ministry of Industry and Trade), Industry and Trade Magazine, Vietnam Electricity Group, Daikin Vietnam,... jointly conducted the launch ceremony for the Earth Hour Campaign 2024.

As part of the Earth Hour Campaign 2024, the online contest "Understanding Energy Efficiency and Conservation in Response to the Earth Hour Campaign 2024" will be organized from March 16th to March 31st, 2024. The contest aims to enhance the implementation of the task of promoting and disseminating knowledge about energy saving, electricity conservation, and environmental protection; also, it supports the execution of Directive No. 20/CT-TTg by the Prime Minister on enhancing electricity saving for the period 2023-2025 and the following years.
