35 works won journalism awards to promote energy efficiency and conservation usage in 2023

On the afternoon of December 12, 2023, Energy Efficiency Steering Committee Office (Ministry of Industry and Trade - MOIT) coordinated with the Vietnam Journalists Association to organize the award ceremony "Journalism Award for the Promotion of Energy Efficiency and Conservation Usage in 2023".
During the ceremony speech, Mr. Phuong Hoang Kim, Head of the Department of Energy Conservation and Sustainable Development - MOIT, stated: To promote the widespread and effective use of energy savings throughout society, the Government of Vietnam has issued numerous documents and related policies, including the National Energy Efficiency Programme for the period 2019 - 2030, approved by the Prime Minister on March 13, 2019. The program sets a goal to achieve energy savings ranging from 8% to 10% of the total national energy consumption from 2019 to 2030.
In order to contribute to the achievement of the aforementioned goal, the Ministry of Industry and Trade is collaborating with various ministries, sectors, localities, and relevant units to implement numerous decisive measures. Among them, communication and raising awareness are crucial solutions that have been and continue to be vigorously promoted.

The 2023 Press Award for the Promotion of Energy Efficiency and Conservation is organized annually by Energy Efficiency Steering Committee Office, in collaboration with the Vietnam Journalists Association. The award aims to promote and disseminate information, as well as implement the National Energy Efficiency Programme for the period 2019 - 2030.
"The award holds significant importance not only for the implementation of the country's economic and social development policies but also has practical relevance to the operational activities, enhancing the effectiveness of the press in societal life. The strong participation of media agencies and journalists demonstrates the level of concern from the community, citizens, and businesses regarding the use of energy savings and efficiency," emphasized Mr. Phuong Hoang Kim, the Head of Energy Conservation and Sustainable Development Department.

In 2023, the Organizing Committee of the award received hundreds of entries across four categories of media: print, electronic, radio, and television. The overall quality of the submitted works was assessed to be relatively consistent, with diverse content addressing various aspects of energy conservation efforts.
Especially this year, many non-specialized media agencies and local newspapers presented excellent articles and achieved high awards. Some media organizations had a team of young reporters producing modern journalistic forms, with in-depth content that was well-appreciated by the judging panel. Several central media agencies maintained in-depth article series, showcasing positive effects, such as Nhan Dan Newspaper, Cong Thuong Newspaper, Giao Thong Newspaper, Tien Phong Newspaper, Economic and Environmental Magazine, Voice of Vietnam, Vietnam Television, and National Assembly Television. Many local media agencies also had outstanding and excellent works, including Voice of Ho Chi Minh City People, Ninh Binh Radio and Television, Thanh Hoa Radio and Television, Quang Ngai Radio, and Television, Thai Nguyen Radio and Television, Thanh Hoa Newspaper, Ha Nam newspaper, Tuyen Quang newspaper, Bac Giang newspaper, etc,.
Out of 366 entries in the competition, the General Council of Judges has selected 47 works to advance to the final round of judging, and 35 most outstanding works from 35 authors or author groups to award 1 Special Prize, 4 A Prizes, 8 B Prizes, 12 C Prizes, and 10 Encouragement Prizes.

Regarding the quality of the submitted works for the competition, Ms. Đỗ Thị Thu Hằng, Head of the Task Force of the Vietnam Journalists Association, stated: "Since its launch, the award has received positive responses from both central and local media agencies. The works submitted for the competition this year reached high levels in both quantity and quality compared to the previous year."
The works selected for the preliminary and final rounds are exemplary pieces that honestly reflect and creatively showcase the results and achievements of energy conservation efforts. They cover various specific topics such as promoting advanced examples, sharing successful experiences, effective practices in localities, units, construction projects, the development of green projects, green city, and research on energy-efficient and conservation usage. Additionally, many works reflect the difficulties, challenges, and future directions of energy-efficient and effective use nationwide in the coming time.

The organizing committee has awarded 01 Special Prize, 04 A Prizes, 08 B Prizes, 12 C Prizes, and 10 Encouragement Prizes to 38 authors or author groups with the most outstanding works. The total value of the prizes reached 274 million Vietnamese dong.
